Eyelash by eyelash or Russian volume, eyelash extensions are an investment, so you might as well put the odds on your side to make them last as long as possible. Maintaining your extensions requires a little discipline. As a rule, the first eyelash extensions begin to fall out after two weeks. Now is a good time to make an appointment for a touch-up. In the meantime, here are our 10 tips to adopt to best maintain your eyelash extensions .

10 tips for caring for your eyelash extensions

Tip 1: No water on freshly applied lashes

The first 48 hours, do not wet your eyelashes. No film that makes you cry, no hammam, no shampoo or aquagym session… The large drops of water prevent the glue from sticking to the eyelashes at the crucial moment of drying. Only the Nanomister micro-droplet spray (on sale at SeeMy) is required to accelerate drying and promote the polymerization of the glue. The plus: by diffusing very fine particles of water at eye level, it also avoids the sometimes unpleasant sensation caused by glue vapours.

Tip 2: Avoid fatty products

Ban greasy substances (make-up remover oil, two-phase solution, greasy serum, etc.) from your beauty routine for the three days preceding the application and all the time you wear extensions. Indeed, this risks altering its adhesion, because eyelash extension glue and oily solutions do not go well together. So after applying your extensions, forget about removing make-up with oil (jojoba, coconut, etc.) and oil-based or two-phase make-up remover formulas and milks. In addition, also pay attention to the eye area when you apply your creams and other facial treatments.

Tip 3: Limit makeup

We recommend that our clients limit makeup to eye level after eyelash extension. The best is even to avoid eyeliner, blush or mascara whose pigments and particles accumulate at the level of the eyelashes, therefore at the level of the attachment points of the locks. This advice is especially relevant for the Russian volume. It is possible to apply eyeshadow on the eyelids, provided that you carefully remove make-up using a stick with a foam tip (link eshop lint free) impregnated with micellar water or a solution adapted. Cotton swabs usually leave cotton fibers that cling to the eyelashes. Also note in the tips: make-up with a glittery texture should be avoided, as they often contain fatty substances.

Tip 4: Clean and brush your eyelashes carefully

After applying eyelash extensions, it is essential to clean them well. Small dust and residues of make-up, sebum or cosmetic products can get stuck between your natural eyelashes and your extensions. Sometimes it can even cause skin reactions. For a good cleaning, you can use a simple Marseille soap or one with donkey’s milk, or even choose an eyelash shampoo specially designed to wash eyelash extensions thoroughly without damaging them. Then, you must proceed to a thorough brushing when your eyelashes are very dry. When they are wet, they weigh more and are at risk of falling. The good gesture: dab a paper towel before passing a special bottle brush or an old clean mascara brush. Natural lashes and extensions tend to clump together during the day. It is therefore recommended to brush your eyelash extensions with the brush (or the mini mascara brush) every day. This gesture will allow you to discipline your extensions and distribute them in an equal range. The right thing to do is to gently brush your dried lashes from root to tip. And don’t forget to maintain your bump too, by storing it in a case and cleaning it regularly. This way, no fibers will get stuck in your eyelash extensions afterwards. Tip 5: Don’t skip the 2nd session

Do not skip the filling session after three to four weeks depending on the type of pose.. So for a week, it’s about 21 eyelashes lost and for 2 weeks about double that is 42 eyelashes. This explains the need for regular touch-ups. For good maintenance, touch-ups every 3 to 4 weeks are preferable. Granted, at this point you have some extensions left, but your natural lashes continue to grow underneath. The weight of the extensions then comes on the tip, causing discomfort and falling. If you come in time, the technician can remove them and put an extension back to the root.

Tip 6: Don’t curl your eyelashes yourself

Your look is now sublime, so put away your eyelash curler which can do a lot of damage and alter the pretty curve established by your technician. If you do not find it marked enough, there will always be time to rectify the situation when editing. If you use an eyelash curler, the latter will mechanically tear off your extensions by pulling on them. Already aggressive for natural eyelashes, the eyelash curler breaks and damages the fringe of your eyelash. It is therefore an instrument to avoid to maintain its extensions.

Tip 7: Avoid heatstroke

Your eyelash extensions do not like sudden changes in temperature and especially heat. So, avoid thermal shocks such as a hair dryer too close to the extensions. No question of blow-drying yourself every morning with the heat directed near your eyes if you want to prolong the life of your extensions as much as possible.
